Beautiful Concrete Pour Completed for Moxy Hotel in Omaha

NGC teamed up with local concrete marvels to complete an amazing pour of 350 Cubic Yards for Moxy Hotel’s elevated slab! Moxy Hotel, a new ground-up hospitality project, is under construction in Downtown Omaha’s Old Market at 12th and Harney. NGC’s concrete pour partners on March 1, 2022 included: Lesch Concrete and Development, to place the concrete, Ready Mix of Omaha, supplying the concrete, Terracon for quality control and Hotz Concrete Pumping provided the concrete pump. In preparation for this half-day-long pour event, over 60 tons of rebar were placed in the 8,200 SF slab! The self-supporting slab is 13 feet above the finished floor with a deck thickness of 14 inches and 22 inches.

The pour started at 8 am, with an air temperature of 37° and concluded at 1 pm at 65°! 35 concrete trucks kept the mix coming over the five hour period. Over 28 crew members were on site to pour, screed, float, finish, direct traffic, and enjoy a lunch from Street Eats Food Truck by Bob’s Grill and Café. Bob’s food truck lunch fare has such a delicious aroma, it attracted The Omaha Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit; Everyone enjoyed having the horses and equestrian-officers check on our project progress, safety and security!

Once completed, this new 46,000 SF, six-story hotel will have 113 beautiful guest rooms. Level one will consist of a commercial kitchen, back of house space, bar and lounge area. The bar and lounge will be open to walk-in customers who can also order from a limited menu provided by the kitchen. Level one will be light gauge steel framing, level two is the podium deck, and framing of levels 2-6 will be with wood. 

NGC’s Project Manager Mitch Jones said, “The designers were conscientious about honoring the Old Market’s setting, while achieving a new energetic vibrancy for the new corner hotel itself; the visible exteriors will be solid brick to match adjacent historical buildings while inside, each floor will utilize a different décor theme. The grand opening slated for end of this year will definitely be a great celebration.”
