NGC Tops Out at Canopy Park; 6-Stories High in Haymarket

NGC is excited to announce a Top Out achievement for Canopy Park, a Multi-Family Mixed-Use apartment complex in the Haymarket! Located at N and Canopy Streets in Lincoln, the 6-story new ground-up construction project hit a milestone when crews topped-out in January of 2022. The teams signed a banner instead of a steel beam because Canopy Park’s topper is a wood truss! The Top Out celebration occurred in March 2022, with lunch service from Cane’s Chicken Fingers, along with music, soda, treats and accolades.

Senior Superintendent Kevin Frey said, “Our wood framing began in May of 2021 for this 206,000 SF building. The framing took nearly 900,000 board feet of lumber to complete! For comparison that would take around 170,000 2x4s that are 8’ long. If you were to lay those down end to end it would stretch nearly 255 miles!”

Deep foundations and footings started in the Fall of 2020 for the 30,000 SF main level. Steel Erection began in January of 2021 for the East Building 6 Story Towers that also includes a 7th floor roof deck, a ‘pano-perch’ area to be made accessible in the future for residents. The North and West Building has a Level 2 Podium deck along with 6 story Balcony Structure. All this work required nearly 1,000 tons of steel.

Currently, the field crews are working on multiple different phases of the project. The East Building is completed with drywall and cabinets and flooring have started. The North Building is finishing up with MEP rough-ins and crews are starting on insulation and drywall. The West Building is getting started with MEP rough-ins. The exterior façade masonry is ongoing with siding starting in April 2022. Congratulations everyone for such great craftsmanship, safety conscientiousness and dedicated teamwork!

Canopy Park is a multi-family, mixed-use U-shape complex that will surround a central courtyard with artificial turf, outdoor grilling stations and a pool. This urban-college-residential complex will consist of 253 apartments with commercial space on the first floor along the east side geared for tenant space build-outs, even a restaurant.

NGC is sponsoring NSC’s Pumpkin Run Sunday, September 25th at 9 am; The Nebraska Sports Council hosts a race every year for elementary student runners to zoom around the Haymarket with fun vendor booths stocked with treats awaiting line-crossers at the finish area. This Fall, the route is adjacent to NGC’s Canopy Park’s site and NGC will have cheer stations set-up with refreshments and goodies. Look for online postings or go to NSC’s Pumpkin Run website for more details!
