Our VISION is to leave every community we build in, better than we found it.
What many would consider a courageous decision, our President Justin Hernandez viewed as an opportunity. In 2009, during one of the most difficult economic periods in recent memory, Justin and our team created New Generation Construction Group with a goal to do things differently in the local construction market. Though the timing was tough, the vision was clear. With a focus on client relationships, innovative solutions utilizing technology, and providing services that are unique in the industry, our team was determined to succeed.
In the fall of 2009, we secured our first job to demolish the empty 186-room Villager hotel on the corner of 52nd and O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. Seven years later, we completed the award-winning redevelopment project of the same city block. What would appear to be just another construction project to most, was a job site that represented our team’s growth, commitment, and full-circle community impact over the years. This project, along with others, like our involvement in the Telegraph District in Lincoln – have been defining moments in our company’s history.
Our team has developed from a small local contractor with seven employees in 2009, to a company that now employs professionals in multiple states across the Midwest. When asked, we will humbly credit our growth to a dedicated team who prides themselves on building relationships and hiring people who willingly buy-in to this priority. As the team continues to focus on collaboration and growth through relationships, the company experiences the benefit of long-lasting partnerships that drive and build the business.
2009
We opened our doors in September of 2009 with seven employees.
Our first project was the demolition of the 186-room Villager hotel in Lincoln. We would later win an award for the redevelopment of this site.
2010
We were awarded our first Unit Price Contract with the University of Nebraska. We focused on small tenant finish projects we could self-perform to keep our entire team busy during the challenging market conditions.
2011
Our team completed our largest project to date. St. Michael’s Catholic School was a ground-up building and included a rectory addition.
We relocated our office to a 3,000 square foot metal building in South Lincoln.
2012
We completed our first hotel project in York, Nebraska; it was a Holiday Inn Express and Suites.
This would later become our niche market. We are now ranked among the top 40 hotel builders in the nation, and have built for every major brand.
2013
For the very first time, we ventured outside the state of Nebraska. We began building a senior living facility in Ankeny, Iowa.
We are now licensed to work in more than 23 states.
2014
We opened an office in Omaha. We knew it would be important to build a team and target relationships in that market.
NGC’s Omaha office is located at 168th & Pacific.
2015
We completed the Arena Lofts in the Lincoln Haymarket District. This was our first project with Speedway Properties.
For the second time in four years, we outgrew our Lincoln office and relocated to a central, downtown location.
2016
We were awarded our two largest hard-bid projects to date, Pemberly Place and the Lancaster County Jail renovation.
Our advantage on the Lancaster County Jail renovation was using robots for demolition when others used traditional manual labor.
We won awards for both of these projects.
2017
We won an Eagle award from the ABC Cornhusker Chapter for the redevelopment of the Villager Gardens site in Lincoln. This was the first site we demolished in 2009. We had come full circle.
We added 56 employees to our team.
2018
Our team completed our first renewable energy project, and later won an Eagle award for the wind farm in Kimball, Nebraska.
We had employees working on projects in seven different states.
2019
We celebrated our 10-year anniversary and opened the doors to our new Lincoln office in the up and coming Telegraph District.
NGC’s core service area is the Central Mid-West, with teams serving many states beyond.
2020
The world was rocked by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our Industry was declared an Essential Business, so we continued to work and navigate the associated challenges.
Our team pivoted and demonstrated resilience through a lot of unknowns.
2021
Our team started multiple projects in North Platte, Nebraska – which has grown to be a fruitful market for us in Western Nebraska.
We also completed our first two custom hotels, Hotel Indigo Downtown Omaha, in Nebraska, and Hotel Indigo Silverthorne, in Colorado.
2022
After two years of limited travel and group interaction due to the lingering requirements related to the pandemic, our team took a winter retreat to Las Vegas to recognize and celebrate our employees’ accomplishments.
We also opened our third office location, south of Denver in Lone Tree Colorado, to support our growing team in the market.
