NGC is a Sponsor of The Lincoln Pumpkin Run; Canopy Park Apartments Site is on the Race Route

NGC was a proud sponsor of the 2022 Pumpkin Run. This annual event melds with NGC’s core values and was a great way to impact the community. This 2022 run’s timing was special, with the location of the route along and around NGC’s Canopy Park Apartments construction site. “Three thousand runners in each heat raced right by the east and south corner of Canopy Park on N and Canopy Streets,” said NGC volunteer and NGC laborer Garrett Hall, “We set up our table on the outer edge to cheer on the racers, and we handed out free waters from our ice barrels.” 

NGC had the honor of hosting two cheer stations, which isn’t typical. One table, as mentioned, was at Canopy’s corner, while the other table was located at the finish line with the other vendor booths. NGC bestowed the young racers and their accompanying fans with cooling bead bands, rally cooling towels, NGC waters, snacks, ping pong balls, party buckets and medicine pouches. NGC can attest that there were over 3,726 pumpkin racers plus hundreds of fans in attendance, as the NGC swag was depleted about an hour before the event’s  end.

This one-mile fun run is held each year on Canopy Street in the Haymarket in collaboration with the Nebraska Sports Council (NSC). The NSC’s goal is to help new athletes and youths to get involved and form connections in local athletics. The opportunity to sponsor the largest fun run in the United
States will allow us to help Lincoln’s children, while giving back to the city.  

As NSC’s executive director, Dave Mlnarik put it, “Having businesses sponsor and boost the race and get further involved with the kids makes us all very glad. We enjoy having this annual event in the Haymarket and along Canopy Street, and NGC’s involvement will only improve it.” The Cornhusker State Games also covered this exciting race in their 2022 Yearbook from pages 122-124, with an NGC banner located on page 62.

Interested runners can always register online at pumpkinrunlincoln.com. If needed, a parent, guardian, or sibling can run alongside their child for extra motivation. Like most fun runs, T-shirts, medals and packets have registration deadlines and date sensitivity.
